Promise Yourself: Affirming the Positive

This poem filled with affirmations has been hung in my room either at home or here at college for the last 4 years. I found this poem when I was looking for something inspirational to take to the girls support group I attended in high school. Each week one of us would bring something inspirational or positive to share with the group. The week that I provided the inspirational words I found this and handed out a copy of this to each girl in the group. I find this poem to be one of inspiration, comfort, and reminders. Each day before I begin my day I read this poem and remind myself to stay positive even in the hardest moments of my day. I love this so much and on many off days, like the one I was having yesterday, this affirmative poem has reminded me to keep my head up and stay positive through the darkness. So for day 9 of the beautiful life: find your inspiration challenge I was asked to share affirmations with you. I choose to share this poem in hopes that you will find it an inspiration and affirming of the positive. Promising yourself to live positive, with love, understanding, and peace.

Promise Yourself

To be so strong that nothing
can disturb your peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness, and prosperity
to every person you meet.

To make all your friends feel
that there is something in them
To look at the sunny side of everything
and make your optimism come true.

To think only the best, to work only for the best,
and to expect only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others
as you are about your own.

To forget the mistakes of the past
and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
To wear a cheerful countenance at all times
and give every living creature you meet a smile.

To give so much time to the improvement of yourself
that you have no time to criticize others.
To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear,
and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.

To think well of yourself and to proclaim this fact to the world,
not in loud words but great deeds.
To live in faith that the whole world is on your side
so long as you are true to the best that is in you.”
