Creating Space
A comfy space to curl up and relax after a fun day with the kiddos.
A positive work area! Filled with supplies and positive affirmations.
Now that I finally have gotten everything in my room at school hung up and put in its place I wanted to share the thoughts and logic behind creating a space for myself to learn, grow and take care of myself. The first thing that is so important to me and really affects me is colors. The color of rooms, clothing, and objects around me really affect the moods and emotions that I take on. This year for my room I choose to go with a lighter and calmer set of colors. In the past my room has been bright pink and had extremely bright and energizing colors. So this year I went with greens and blues with one small hint of pink in the room. This has really helped me to stay calm and work through anxiety and emotions that I am feeling in a more relaxed environment. We often don't think or realize how important the physical space that we are in effects us. It effects our reactions and emotions and I know for me it effects how I react to just about anything. I feel colors strongly. I also take into account when putting together a room the lighting. For me lighting once again is a key component to anxiety and panic situations. The easiest and best thing I can do is stay away from industrial, florescent lights. Many people think I am crazy when I can't handle the light but its something that effects my moods and definitely impacts my anxiety level. So a simple fix this year was to add lamps on my desk and my shelf so that I could avoid the big florescent light in the middle of the room. I also love to have pictures of the many important people in my life to make it feel homey and to remind me on the days that I am struggling of the people I love. Among the pictures there are also positive notes, pictures, and quotes to keep an upbeat and light attitude. Overall so far my room has been a nice place for me to create space between the world and what I need to do to keep myself healthy. Each night I have the chance to unwind and relax in a comfortable space before going to sleep and starting another day. So many people who face anxiety and depression find comfort and safety in spaces they create for themselves. It is a huge piece of self care and of self love to create a space for yourself the reflects the positive in your life.
Create a place of positive love for yourself!
